Skip Barber Race Series Prepares for NOLA Doubleheader

The Skip Barber Race Series will travel to the bayou of Louisiana for a pair of races at NOLA Motorsports Park this weekend. After a thrilling opening round at Sebring International Raceway, the field of drivers will face a new set of challenges with the 2.748-mile course presenting plenty of opportunities for drivers to hone their skillset. Ahead of this weekend’s activity, multiple drivers emphasized the shorter track, with longer straights, and how that will influence the racing compared to Sebring. “With NOLA being a shorter track, I think there will be a lot closer racing between everyone,” Thomas Nordquist said. The shorter track, comprised of a pair of long straights will place a premium on drafting, Oliver Wheldon explained, “the draft will be a lot,” he said. With the draft playing a larger role at the shorter track, Alan Orzynski foresees a weekend where it could be difficult to pass. “Sebring had plenty more passing opportunities, in NOLA, if we carry very similar pace passing may become a challenge,” Orzynski said. Ryan Giannetta, who scored a podium on his debut at Sebring, is looking forward to the smoother and wider track surface. “I am feeling very confident. I really liked my pace in Sebring so I think I will be very competitive in NOLA,” Giannetta said. Alongside the Skip Barber Race Series at NOLA this weekend will be a full slate of USF Championship races, including USF Juniors where multiple Skip Barber Race Series graduates will be competing, including reigning champion Sebastian Wheldon. Jeshua Alianell will also be competing in USF Juniors, driving with Skip Barber Racing. “I’m excited to be in a paddock with the other Road to Indy guys,” Griffin Yellin said. “It’s going to be cool to watch their races and sessions in between ours and try to learn as much as possible from them. I’m keeping an open mind as I don’t know the track very well, but we will see how I get on,” Yellin added. The Skip Barber Race Series drivers will be busy with a pair of practice sessions and qualifying on Saturday, April 6 ahead of the dual 20-minute races on Sunday, April 7.
