The Skip Barber Race Series returns this week for the penultimate round of the 2025 season with a pair of races on VIRginia International Raceway’s Full Course. Drivers’ braking skills will be put to the test, as the 3.27-mile circuit offers few straight braking zones and plenty of elevation changes, making overtaking especially challenging. Championship leader, Spain’s Ivan Machado Perez, returns to VIR, the track where his ongoing win streak began. Should results fall his way this week, Perez could clinch the 2025 title. That, however, depends on the performance of Mexico’s Alan Orzynski. Orzynski’s run of six consecutive podium finishes has kept Perez’s championship celebration on hold, and another pair of strong results could keep the crown out of Perez’s reach at VIR. Another driver who could challenge Perez is Brazil’s Naim Saleh. In his last six outings, Saleh has collected five podiums and now looks poised to climb into third in the overall standings with another clean weekend. Saleh has also showcased his wheel-to-wheel prowess, in addition to his one lap pace. He has either improved upon or maintained his starting position in three of the last four races. The battle for the top five in the full-season standings could hardly be closer between Trevor LaTourrette and Logan Anderson. The two are separated by just five points, having scored 103 and 101 points, respectively, over the last two rounds. With both drivers showing strong and consistent form, it’s anyone’s guess who will emerge ahead at week’s end. Few drivers have adapted as quickly to the Skip Barber Race Series as Scott Pyle. The rookie debuted at Watkins Glen and, by the next round, had already come close to the podium with a pair of fourth-place finishes at New Jersey Motorsports Park. VIRginia International Raceway is familiar ground for Pyle, who completed Advanced Coaching with the Skip Barber Racing School earlier this summer. With that experience and his recent momentum, Pyle is a name to watch this week. Fellow rookie Robert Mosteller also returns to the grid after making his debut at New Jersey Motorsports Park. Mosteller capped off his inaugural weekend by setting his fastest lap in the closing moments of Race 2. Having shown steady improvement at NJMP, he looks primed to build on that performance in his second Skip Barber Race Series event. “Oak Tree Corner and the Rollercoaster can make or break your lap at VIRginia International Raceway,” Skip Barber Race Series Director Mike Ogren explained. “Oak Tree presents a tricky braking zone with both descending and ascending track underneath the car. A strong run out of Oak Tree can reward a driver all the way down to the Rollercoaster where I’m sure we’ll see some passes.” With the championship battle reaching its climax and storylines emerging throughout the field, VIRginia International Raceway is set to deliver one of the most pivotal weekends of the 2025 Skip Barber Race Series season.
