Skip Barber Racing captured its first GT4 America victory as brothers Alex and Michael Garcia combined to deliver a stellar performance in the No. 07 PolePace Aston Martin Vantage GT4 on Sunday. Alex Garcia took the start of the one-hour race with heavy rain falling on the hills of Napa Valley and successfully navigated the treacherous conditions. A full course yellow within the pit window provided the field with an opportunity to pit and change drivers, allowing Alex to hand the controls to his brother Michael. With the field restacked and the track beginning to dry, Michael set to work. After restarting fourth in-class, he quickly began to climb the order. In less than five minutes, Michael would complete five passes in total, including the three cars ahead of him in the inter-class battle. With the lead in-hand, Michael guided the No. 07 PolePace Aston Martin Vantage GT4 home, delivering a career-first victory for the pair of brothers. “Winning our first GT4 race was an absolutely unforgettable experience but doing it alongside my brother made it even more special,” Alex said. “The hard work, the passion, and the shared dream all came together in that moment — proof that this is just the beginning and there are many, many more to come.” The success of the Garcia brothers didn’t stop with GT4 America, however, as Michael earned a podium finish in his TC America powered by the Skip Barber Racing School debut, piloting the No. 07 PolePace Acura Integra Type S to a second-place result in the season-opener. Alex, meanwhile, climbed 15 spots in Toyota GR Cup North America to earn himself the Hard Charger Award and a top ten finish. "Winning my first race in GT4 America and earning a podium spot in TC America feels like a major milestone," Michael Garcia said. "After dedicating the past year to a mix of physical and mental training alongside sim racing, it's rewarding to see the hard work finally come together. The results are proof that the effort is paying off, and it’s exciting to see my progress reflected on the track. Additionally, the popular one-make series McLaren Trophy made its debut in North America. Skip Barber Racing will field two cars for the season, including one for longtime Skip Barber Racing driver Cooper Broll and McLaren Graduate Driver Tommy Pintos. Pintos, from Spain, is the 2023 champion of McLaren Trophy, Europe and brings a valuable skillset to the team. Unfortunately for the McLaren Trophy, America entries, the weekend was cut short after one race due to heavy rain. Broll and Pintos still made the best of their time on track, however, capturing a podium finish in the Pro class. Jason Guzman and Chris Leichtweis, meanwhile, finished sixth in the Pro-Am class. The final Skip Barber Racing entry of the weekend was James Klimas who made his TC America powered by the Skip Barber Racing School debut in the all-new Toyota GR Corolla TC. Klimas spent last season campaigning a Toyota GR Cup entry but traded in his rear-wheel drive GR86 for the AWD GR Corolla. He ended his weekend with a pair of top ten finishes. Looking ahead, Skip Barber Racing will shift its attention to Circuit of the Americas where GT4 America will host a three-hour endurance race as opposed to a pair of sprint races.
