The Skip Barber Racing School and the Route 66 Sprint Series are pleased to unveil a multi-year partnership that will provide exciting opportunities to up and coming karters who are competing in the Route 66 Sprint Series. Each year, two drivers will be selected by instructors from the Skip Barber Racing School and the staff of the Route 66 Sprint Series to receive the Skip Barber Racing School Sportsmanship Award which includes a One Day Formula Racing School. Many of Skip Barber’s most successful alumni attended a Skip Barber program via a scholarship they earned in karting including Alexander Rossi. With a One Day Racing School, students can begin their Formula Car training and eventually advance into the Skip Barber Race Series, where drivers such as Josef Newgarden and Sergio Perez experienced their first taste of open-wheel racing. “When we looked back at the paths that our most successful alumni took, many involved some form of scholarship opportunity,” Skip Barber Racing School Chief Marketing Officer Joe Monitto said. “Establishing such a path for the next generation of racers is at the heart of this partnership. We want these opportunities to go to drivers who are not only fast, but demonstrate a positive mindset and who are hardworking,” Monitto explained. The 2026 Route 66 Sprint Series will feature four rounds at tracks across the Midwest including the season-opener at New Castle Motorsports Park and the finale at Briggs and Stratton Motorplex at Road America. "The Route 66 Sprint Series is a key part of the motorsports ladder system for so many Midwestern kart racers,” series owner Tim Koyen said. “Establishing this partnership with Skip Barber Racing School will give our racers instant access to the next level of motorsports.
