Over the weekend, Skip Barber Racing School graduates won the Formula 1 Academy championship, clinched a chance at the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series title, and scored top-five finishes in the United States Grand Prix, the NASCAR Cup Series, and the NASCAR Xfinity Series. The footprint of the Skip Barber Racing School was felt in full force at Circuit of the Americas as Formula 1 and the F1 Academy descended upon Austin, Texas. Many of the racers in the Formula 1 Academy field completed a two-day program with the Skip Barber Racing School in 2023. That on-track experience proved to be valuable as Marta Garcia and Jessica Edgar, both graduates of the Skip Barber Racing School won their respective races during the Formula 1 Academy weekend. In the United States Grand Prix on Sunday, graduate Sergio Perez climbed five positions to finish the race in fourth. In South Florida, the NASCAR contingency arrived at Homestead-Miami Speedway for a tripleheader featuring all of the sanctioning bodies’ touring series. Skip Barber Racing School graduate Carson Hocevar’s win in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series paved the way for him to fight for a championship at Phoenix in two weeks. John Hunter Nemechek finished third in the NASCAR Xfinity Series, shoring up his chances at a Championship Four appearance with one race remaining before the season finale. On Sunday, Skip Barber Racing School graduates filled the top ten with AJ Allmendinger (5th) leading Bubba Wallace (6th) and Joey Logano (8th). Looking ahead to next weekend, the NASCAR Cup Series and NASCAR Xfinity Series will visit Martinsville Speedway for the penultimate race of the season. Those events will decide which four drivers have a chance at the 2023 championship for their respective series. Among the Skip Barber Racing School graduates still in the mix for the Xfinity Series championship are the aforementioned Nemecheck along with Sammy Smith, Chandler Smith, and Austin Hill, while Chris Buescher carries the Skip Barber banner in the NASCAR Cup Series playoffs.
