Skip Barber Racing School graduate Chris Buescher will enter the NASCAR Cup Series playoffs as the hottest driver of them all. With his latest win at the Daytona International Speedway, Buescher has proved himself to be a contender on everything from short tracks to superspeedway. As so often occurs with plate racing, Buescher emerged from the pack of contenders in the final laps of the race. With the help of RFK Racing teammate Brad Keselowski, Buescher rocketed to the front of the field during the race’s sole overtime to claim his third win of the season. Skip Barber graduate Bubba Wallace secured the final spot in the 16-driver playoffs. Wallace’s consistency, bolstered by a string of strong performances on road courses in the last month, ultimately served as his ticket to the postseason. With Buescher and Wallace being joined by road course extraordinaire Michael McDowell, reigning champion Joey Logano, and our close ally Ross Chastain over 30% of the drivers in the 2023 NASCAR Cup Series playoffs will be Skip Barber Racing School graduates, a fact we’re extremely proud of. The NTT IndyCar Series, meanwhile, visited World Wide Technology Raceway for its final oval race of the season before a two-week West Coast trip that will end the season. Skip Barber Race Series graduate Josef Newgarden started the weekend off strongest, leading the opening practice session and qualifying on the outside of row one. On Sunday, however, Alexander Rossi emerged as the top graduate with his fourth-place result. Graduate Colton Herta was sixth in the 500-mile race. At VIRginia International Raceway for the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship race, graduate Jordan Taylor claimed the overall win in the Michelin GT Challenge alongside teammate Antonio Garcia. Taylor’s one hour and forty-six-minute stint saw him take the overall lead of the race before guiding the #3 Corvette safely to the finish. Sunday’s victory was the second of the year for Taylor.Next week, the NASCAR Cup Series and NASCAR Xfinity Series go to the legendary Darlington Raceway while the NTT IndyCar Series ventures to Portland International Raceway.
