Graduates of the Skip Barber Racing School swept the NASCAR weekend from Nashville Superspeedway, securing wins in the NASCAR Cup Series, NASCAR Xfinity Series, and NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series. In addition to the weekend sweep, Skip Barber Racing School alumni locked out the top three spots of Sunday’s NASCAR Cup Series race with alumni Joey Logano emerging on top after a record-setting five overtime attempts. As the field pitted for fuel or ran out while on track, Logano stretched his fuel to cover the final 110 laps of the race, including the five overtime attempts. This win was Logano’s first of the year and he has now won at least one NASCAR Cup Series race in the last 12-consecutive seasons. Just behind Logano were a pair of Skip Barber Racing School alumni: Zane Smith and Tyler Reddick. Reddick stormed from sixth to second in just one lap, but his charge was halted by Logano. Meanwhile, graduate Zane Smith completed a pair of passes on the final lap to secure a second-place finish, the best NASCAR Cup Series finish of his career. Graduates Chris Buescher (5th), Bubba Wallace (7th), and Noah Gragson (10th) also finished in the top ten. Reddick never finished lower than third in Stage 1 and Stage 2, helping him secure a race-high 51 points. Additionally, Skip Barber Racing School graduated Ross Chastain led 45 laps and was in contention for the win before being collected in an incident in overtime. In the NASCAR Xfinity Series, Skip Barber Racing School alumni John Hunter Nemechek bested fellow graduate Chandler Smith in the Tennessee Lottery 250. This was Nemechek’s second NASCAR Xfinity Series win of the season. Austin Hill (4th), Gragson (5th), and AJ Allmendinger (7th) also finished in the top ten. Lastly, the Skip Barber Racing School graduate’s sweep of the weekend was kickstarted by alumni Christian Eckes who led all 150 laps of the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series race in a dominating victory. Graduate Matt Mills scored his second top-ten finish of the season with an eighth-place result. Alumni Jake Garcia completed the top ten of Friday’s race. In Austria, Skip Barber Racing School graduate Sergio Perez finished the Qatar Airways Grand Austrian Grand Prix in seventh. This weekend, the NTT IndyCar Series will debut the new hybrid systems bolted between the Dallara iR-18’s engine and gearbox. The system will provide drivers with an estimated additional 120 horsepower when they hit the track at the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course. Skip Barber Race Series alumni Sebastian Wheldon and Jeshua Alianell will also be racing at Mid-Ohio. NASCAR will spend its July 4th weekend in the Windy City with the NASCAR Cup Series and NASCAR Xfinity Series taking on the Chicago Street Course. Formula 1 and Sergio Perez will complete the third leg of a triple header with the British Grand Prix from Silverstone.
