The Skip Barber Racing School will partner with Andretti-Jourdain Racing to field an entry in the 2025 SuperCopa race at the Formula 1 Mexican Grand Prix. The entry will be driven by Javier Gonzalez, an alumni of the Skip Barber Racing School, FIA Spanish Formula 4 Vice Champion, and karting ambassador in Mexico. This project marks another major milestone in the Skip Barber Racing School’s continued investment in Mexico’s vibrant and growing racing industry. Earlier this year, Skip Barber unveiled plans to construct a racing resort in the town of Ixtapan de la Sal. The entry also marks a new chapter in Skip Barber’s continued relationship with Andretti Global. “This event is an excellent opportunity for us to continue to promote the Skip Barber Racing School and our training offerings to new groups,” Skip Barber Chief Revenue Officer Dan DeMonte said. “The chance to bring together the iconic Skip Barber Racing School brand, with an alumni of our programs, in an Andretti-Jourdain car was one that we did not want to miss. I’m looking forward to the Formula 1 Mexican Grand Prix weekend and seeing the car hit the track later this year.” A plethora of Formula 1 drivers began their careers at Skip Barber by competing in the Skip Barber Race Series, including Sergio Perez and Cadillac Formula 1 Team test driver Colton Herta. The Skip Barber Race Series, which was launched in 1976, is the oldest active program of the Skip Barber Racing School, beyond the schools themselves. Previously, the Skip Barber Racing School played a critical role in the training of Andretti Junior Development Drivers Sebastian and Oliver Wheldon. The two brothers – the sons of the late Dan Wheldon – both won the Skip Barber Race Series title in their rookie seasons before advancing their careers. This year’s Mexican Grand Prix and SuperCopa race will add another chapter to the Skip Barber and Andretti Global story. “We are very happy to welcome Javier into the team, we know he is a very capable driver and comes with a lot of European racing experience,” Paul Jourdain said. “It is also the first time we are expanding to two cars, and we think that gives us a great opportunity to go for the win in both the GTM and GTM Lights series at the Mexican Grand Prix. “It is also great to have the opportunity to work with Skip Barber Racing School for the first time, they already do a lot with Andretti Global through their partnership. We hope this is just the beginning and we can expand on the program for next year,” Jourdain added. Javier Gonzalez, 24-years-old, from Mexico City has a long career of karting and Formula racing including in Italian Formula 4, Spanish Formula 4, and EuroFormula Open. This event will mark his return to racing in his native country. Gonzalez’ ties to Skip Barber goes beyond just himself as his father is a fellow alumni of the Skip Barber Racing School. “I’m extremely excited to race at the Mexican Grand Prix weekend in the GTM car as part of the support race,” Gonzalez said. “It’s my first time racing back home after Europe, and it feels very special. Partnering with the Skip Barber Racing School makes it even more meaningful, since they gave me my very first opportunity to drive a race car when I was 12-years-old.
