Graduates of the Skip Barber Racing School finished in the top five of the NASCAR Cup Series race from New Hampshire, the IMSA Sahlen’s Six Hours of the Glen from Watkins Glen, and the NTT IndyCar Series race from Laguna Seca. In the NASCAR Cup Series race on Sunday afternoon, 60% of the drivers who finished in the top ten were graduates of the Skip Barber Racing School including Josh Berry who matched his season-best finish of third. Chris Buescher (5th), Tyler Reddick (6th), Ricky Stenhouse Jr. (7th), John Hunter Nemechek (8th), and Ross Chastain (10th) also finished in the top ten. Reddick led 53 laps while fellow Skip Barber alumni Joey Logano finished in the top three of both stages. NASCAR and the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Series Championship race from Watkins Glen were both plagued by weather. A forty-minute red flag in the second half of the Sahlen’s Six Hours of the Glen set up an intriguing dash to the finish once the skies had cleared. Skip Barber Racing School graduate Jordan Taylor finished fourth in his No. 40 Wayne Taylor Racing with Andretti Acura ARX-06. Fellow graduate Connor De Phillippi was sixth in the No. 25 BMW Hybrid from Team RLL. In GT Daytona, graduates Spencer Pumpelly (3rd) and Robby Foley (5th) finished in the top five. Foley was also seventh in Saturday’s IMSA Michelin Pilot Challenge race. Skip Barber Racing finished Saturday’s Michelin Pilot Challenge race in the top fifteen with Ken Fukuda and Will Lambros earning their best finish of 2024. In the second weekend of Mustang Challenge, Skip Barber Racing made its debut in the series with a Ford Mustang Dark Horse R driven by Skip Barber Racing School instructor Mike Stillwagon. Stillwagon was fifth in Race 1 and improved to fourth in Race 2. Former Skip Barber Race Series competitor Gabe Tesch was seventh in Race 1 and, like Stillwagon, improved one spot to finish sixth in Race 2. On the West Coast, the NTT IndyCar Series and INDY NXT found more welcoming weather. Skip Barber Racing School graduates Colton Herta (2nd), Alexander Rossi (3rd), Kyle Kirkwood (5th), and Santino Ferruci (9th) ended the afternoon in the top ten. Kirkwood’s 24 laps led was the most of any Skip Barber alumni as Rossi led ten laps and Herta led eight. Herta has been dominating in his native California this season as the 24-year-old has collected a pair of second place finishes in the Golden State. Other notable performances from Skip Barber Racing School graduates include Myles Rowe who was sixth in Race 1 and Lindsay Brewer who gained positions in both races including an improvement of five spots in Race 2. Finally, Skip Barber Racing School graduate Sergio Perez finished the Spanish Grand Prix in eighth. Looking ahead to next weekend, Formula 1 will visit the Red Bull Ring for the Austrian Grand Prix, and the full complement of NASCAR series will descend upon Nashville Superspeedway.
