Skip Barber Racing School graduates won sportscar races in Canada, took home podium finishes on an oval in Iowa, and claimed top-five finishes on a triangle in Pennsylvania. The weekend was headlined by wins from Steven McAleer in IMSA Michelin Pilot Challenge, Westin Workman in Whelen Mazda MX-5 Cup, and Spencer Pumpelly in the GTD class of the IMSA WeatherTech Sportscar Championship. In addition to McAleer, Workman, and Pumpelly’s victories, fellow Skip Barber Racing School graduates Scott Huffaker and Robby Foley finished in the top five with Huffaker claiming an overall podium finish in LMP2. Meanwhile, the NASCAR Cup Series, NASCAR Xfinity Series, and NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series descended upon the tricky triangle of Pocono Raceway. In total, 11 different Skip Barber Racing School graduates finished in the top ten of their respective races with the strongest results coming from Christian Eckes (3rd) in the Craftsman Truck Series and Alex Bowman (3rd) in the Cup Series. Other alumni in the Cup Series top ten were Joey Logano (5th), Tyler Reddick (6th), Bubba Wallace (10th). Graduates AJ Allmendinger (6th), Austin Hill (7th), and Sammy Smith (9th) finished in the top ten of Saturday’s NASCAR Xfinity Series race. In addition to Eckes, Ross Chastain (5th) and Matt Crafton (8th) had strong runs in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series. Lastly, the NTT IndyCar Series held a doubleheader at Iowa Speedway where graduates Josef Newgarden and Kyle Kirkwood put on an overtaking clinic, gaining a combined 31 spots in the 250-lap race. Newgarden finished third while Kirkwood finished seventh. Fellow Skip Barber alumni Santino Ferrucci (6th) and Alexander Rossi (8th) also finished in the top ten. On Sunday, Newgarden passed another seven drivers to finish seventh while Ferrucci improved eight spots to finish 11th, narrowly missing out on his eighth top-ten of the season. Santino is on course for his career-best finish in the NTT IndyCar Series championship. Graduates Colton Herta (5th) and Graham Rahal (8th) also finished in the top ten. Looking ahead to next weekend, NASCAR will venture to Indianapolis with the Cup Series and Xfinity Series taking on the famed Indianapolis Motor Speedway while the Craftsman Truck Series sets up shop across town at the short track of Indianapolis Raceway Park. The NTT IndyCar Series will take a trip to Canada for a duel on the streets of Toronto. Finally, In Formula 1, Skip Barber Racing School graduate Sergio Perez will head to the Hungaroring for the Hungarian Grand Prix. Looking even further ahead, Skip Barber Racing is preparing its Aston Martin Vantage GT4 for a special driver at Road America on August 2-4.
