Skip Barber Racing School alumni Myles Rowe became the first African American to win a race in the Indy NXT Series with a triumphant drive at Iowa Speedway. After starting fourth, Rowe quickly moved into second, where he remained for most of the 75-lap race. With just a handful of laps remaining, he used slower traffic to execute a bold pass around the outside and take the lead. Rowe’s sophomore campaign in Indy NXT is proving to be a fruitful one, with six top-five finishes so far—tripling his 2024 total—with five races still left to run. Fellow Skip Barber graduate Max Taylor finished tenth at Iowa. The NTT IndyCar Series also visited Iowa Speedway, where Skip Barber graduate Josef Newgarden recorded a pair of top-ten finishes, highlighted by a second-place result on Saturday. Fellow alumni Conor Daly (7th) and Santino Ferrucci (8th) also earned top-ten finishes in the opening race of the doubleheader weekend. Out west, the NASCAR Cup Series and NASCAR Xfinity Series visited Sonoma Raceway. Skip Barber graduate Connor Zilisch claimed victory in the Xfinity Series race, with fellow graduate Sammy Smith also finishing in the top ten. In the Cup Series race, Ross Chastain won Stage 1, while Bubba Wallace earned valuable points with a third-place finish in the opening stage. By the end of the 110-lap Cup race, four Skip Barber Racing School alumni finished in the top ten with Michael McDowell (4th) and Tyler Reddick (6th) leading the charge, joined by Joey Logano (9th) and Kyle Busch (10th). At Watkins Glen, the Skip Barber Race Series and Trans-Am were in action. Ivan Machado Perez extended his championship lead with a pair of victories in the Series. Skip Barber graduate Chris Dyson placed third in the TA class of Saturday’s Trans-Am race. Meanwhile, former Skip Barber Race Team competitor Celso Neto secured a third-place finish in the TCR class of the IMSA Michelin Pilot Challenge at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park.
