Skip Barber Racing School alumni Connor Zilisch claimed his sixth NASCAR Xfinity Series win of the season with a stellar drive from Watkins Glen. The rookie fared better on the track than he did in victory lane, however, as he slipped off his car, landing him in a local hospital with a broken collarbone. Despite the injury, he was all smiles on the pre-race grid of Sunday’s NASCAR Cup Series race. In addition to Zilisch’s win, fellow Skip Barber alumni Sammy Smith (3rd), Austin Hill (4th), Brandon Jones (9th), and Harrison Burton (10th) finished in the top ten. On Sunday, graduate Chris Buescher was the highest-finishing Skip Barber alumni with a third-place result. Bubba Wallace (8th), Tyler Reddick (9th), and Ross Chastain (10th) rounded out the top ten. Across the continent, the NTT IndyCar Series was in Portland for the final road course race of the season where alumni Graham Rahal scored his season-best finish with a fourth-place result. Graduates Alexander Rossi (5th) and Colton Herta (10th) also left with Portland solid finishes. In Indy NXT, Skip Barber alumni Myles Rowe earned his fifth podium of the season. The 25-year-old’s sophomore campaign in Indy NXT has been fruitful and Rowe looks poised for a top five finish in the championship. Sharing the track with IndyCar in Portland was the full compliment of USF series where Skip Barber alumni scored notable finished in all three series. Beginning with USF Juniors, reigning Skip Barber Race Series champion Oliver Wheldon was fourth in Race 2 while fellow Skip Barber Race Series alumni Matan Achituv and Thomas Nordquist scored top ten finishes. Lastly, graduate Ty Fisher capped off the USF Juniors weekend with a win in Race 3. Alumni Jack Jeffers netted a pair of wins and a second-place finish in a dominating weekend in USF2000. Former Skip Barber Race Series contenders Caleb Gafrarar and Ryan Giannetta also had top ten finishes. Finally, alumni Max Taylor finished fourth in Race 1 of USF Pro 2000 while Tyke Durst added a top ten result to his record.
