Skip Barber Racing School graduate Ricky Stenhouse Jr. emerged from the largest crash in NASCAR Cup Series history on Sunday to win the YellaWood 500. Fellow Skip Barber alumni Erik Jones (5th) and Bubba Wallace (9th) were also involved in the crash but managed to salvage top ten finishes. In the NASCAR Xfinity Series, Skip Barber Racing School graduate Sammy Smith clinched his spot in the Round of 8 by winning the United Rentals 250 on Saturday. In addition to Smith, graduate Chandler Smith shored up his Round of 8 chances with a 5th-place result. Lastly, Skip Barber alumni Jeb Burton finished 7th, his best finish of the season. On Friday, the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series opened the action from Talladega with the Love’s RV Stop 225 where Skip Barber graduates Lawless Alan (5th), Christian Eckes (6th), and Bret Holmes (9th), finished in the top ten. Next week, NASCAR will return to Charlotte Motor Speedway and take on the track’s road course. The event will be the final race in the Round of 12. Skip Barber alumni Austin Cindric and Joey Logano are below the cutline while graduates Tyler Reddick and Alex Bowman are above the line. In the Xfinity Series, all Skip Barber graduates are above the cutline with AJ Allmendinger and Austin Hill joining Chandler Smith and Sammy Smith. Meanwhile, SRO America was putting a bow on its 2024 season with a full slate of races from the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. The weekend was kickstarted by veteran Skip Barber Racing School instructor Mike Stillwagon, who claimed second place in the inaugural season of Mustang Challenge. A pair of podium finishes in the Dark Horse Legends class helped Stillwagon climb one spot in the standings over the weekend. Skip Barber Racing swept the TC America powered by the Skip Barber Racing School season finale with Celso Neto claiming two victories in the No. 22 Skip Barber Racing School Acura Integra Type S. Skip Barber Racing teammate Cooper Broll added a top-five result in Race 2 while Alex Garcia was victorious in the TCA class of Race 1. In Toyota GR Cup North America, alumni Westin Workman finished Race 1 on the podium and Skip Barber Racing’s Alex Garcia was ninth in both races. Former Skip Barber Race Series contender Jaxon Bell was fourth in Race 2. Indy NXT regular, and Skip Barber Racing School alumni, Myles Rowe ventured into sportscar racing with a pair of top-five finishes in GT4 America, including a podium result in Race 1. The headlining event for the weekend was GT World Challenge America’s eight-hour endurance race on Saturday. Graduate Robby Foley was second in Pro-Am, and alumni Bill Auberlen was fifth in Pro. This weekend, the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship and IMSA Michelin Pilot Challenge seasons will conclude from Road Atlanta while the NASCAR Cup Series and NASCAR Xfinity Series will whittle down their playoff grids in Charlotte.
