Skip Barber Racing School alumni and Skip Barber Driving Academy partner, Ross Chastain won the NASCAR Cup Series race at Kansas Speedway on Sunday afternoon. This was Chastain’s first win of the year and the fifth of his career. Chastain was propelled to the win after a strong final stage, highlighted by a race-winning pass on the final restart. In addition to Chastain, Skip Barber Racing School graduates Alex Bowman (6th), and Zane Smith (10th) also finished in the top ten. Bowman, who is in the playoffs, took a crucial victory in Stage 2, putting him eight points above the playoff cutline as the field heads to Talladega Superspeedway and the Charlotte Motor Speedway Road Course. In the NASCAR Xfinity Series, Skip Barber alumni Chandler Smith (3rd), Brandon Jones (6th), and Austin Hill (7th), finished in the top ten. Saturday’s race was the playoff opener for Smith and Hill who now sit second and third respectively in the standings. Finally, Skip Barber graduate Christian Eckes was third in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series race. Fellow alumni Tanner Gray (6th) and Bayley Currey (8th) also had top-ten results. Television star and Skip Barber Racing School graduate Patrick Dempsey won Race 2 of the Porsche Sprint Challenge North America Cayman weekend from Sonoma Raceway. Other alumni who found success at Sonoma Raceway were Kevin Woods who swept the weekend in Porsche Sprint Challenge USA West as well as Conrad Geis and Ashley Freiberg who each netted a podium in Porsche Sprint Challenge North America. Looking ahead to this weekend, Skip Barber Racing will travel to Indianapolis Motor Speedway for the SRO America season finale. The NASCAR Cup Series, NASCAR Xfinity Series, and NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series will visit Talladega Superspeedway. The IMSA Weathertech Sportscar Championship will return to action the following weekend for Petit Le Mans while Formula 1 will land in Texas for the United States Grand Prix on October 20. Lastly, a special tip of the cap for Skip Barber Racing School graduate Bryan Sellers who announced his retirement from racing on Monday. The former Skip Barber Dodge Pro Series competitor scored two IMSA WeatherTech Sportscar Championships, a Rolex 24 at Daytona win, and 12 Hours of Sebring victory throughout his illustrious fifteen-year career in sportscar racing.
