The Skip Barber Race Series welcomed a pair of rookie drivers to the grid, delivered competitive racing throughout the field, and completed an all-green flag weekend at New Jersey Motorsports Park. Among the standout stories were Trevor LaTourrette’s charge up the championship standings, successful debuts from Robert Mosteller and Thaden Van Wong, and a return to the podium for John O’Donnell and Naim Saleh. At the front of the field, Spain’s Ivan Machado Perez continued his dreamlike season, securing a pair of victories that placed him on the brink of the 2025 Skip Barber Race Series title. The quickest path for Perez to clinch the championship is by finishing no worse than third in Race 1 at VIRginia International Raceway at the end of August. Joining Perez on the podium in both races was Alan Orzynski, whose pair of third-place finishes solidified his hold on second in the Championship Standings. Orzynski is now on track for his career-best finish in the Skip Barber Race Series. No driver made more progress up the leaderboard than Trevor LaTourrette. The Colorado native climbed four positions to fifth in the Championship Standings. With another consistent weekend and his fifth top-five finish of the season, LaTourrette is building a 2025 campaign to be proud of. Meanwhile, Robert Mosteller and Thaden Van Wong began their Skip Barber Race Series journeys at NJMP. Both drivers completed intensive training with the Skip Barber Racing School in the week leading up to their debut races. Despite the hot and humid conditions in the days preceding the Race Series, the pair maintained strong pace throughout the weekend. Mosteller capped off his debut by setting his fastest lap of the event in the closing minutes of Race 2, while Van Wong also saved his best for last, recording his quickest lap on the final tour of NJMP’s Thunderbolt Raceway. John O’Donnell and Naim Saleh both returned to the podium, each securing a second-place finish. Saleh made the most of his front-row start in Race 1, executing a clean run to the second step of the podium. Race 2 featured a thrilling three-car battle as Saleh, O’Donnell, and Orzynski fought wheel-to-wheel for podium positions. This time, it was O’Donnell who claimed second place after fending off multiple challenges from Saleh and Orzynski. Additionally, Scott Pyle and Grant Mitchell each recorded their best Skip Barber Race Series finishes to date. Pyle secured a fourth-place result in Race 2, an impressive feat in just his second weekend of series competition. Grant Mitchell broke into the top five in Race 1, capitalizing on a strong starting position to deliver a standout performance.
