The Skip Barber Race Series visited the Bayous of Louisiana for a weekend of extended green-flag racing, fierce and fair competition, and a talented young grid that once again proved the Skip Barber Race Series to be the definitive driver training program. With a pair of long straights, bookended by technical sections, NOLA Motorsports Park provided the field with the opportunity to sharpen their race craft in a variety of scenarios. Among the career-first achievements collected by the field was a win, a pair of top five finishes, and a new championship leader. Carrying the momentum earned from scoring his first Skip Barber Race Series podium at Sebring International Raceway, Chris Spada shot to the top of the timing charts in qualifying. He converted his pole position to a victory in Race 1 and Race 2, completing the weekend sweep. Spain’s Ivan Machado Perez vaulted to the top of the Skip Barber Race Series championship standings with a pair of podium finishes. Through the first four races of the season, Perez has not finished lower than second. Joining Spada and Perez on the podium for Race 1 and Race 2 was Alan Orzynski. The 60-points earned by Orzynski at NOLA is the biggest points-haul of his flourishing Skip Barber Race Series career. The half mile run from the green flag to the first corner presented the field with the opportunity to fan out, peak to the inside of the car in front of them and potentially make an early move into the first corner’s braking zone. The strongest start came from Ethan Booher who climbed from fourth to second, and challenged Spada for the lead of the race as the pair navigated the track’s technical first sector. Orzynski and Perez would soon regain their spots as they used NOLA’s long frontstretch to tuck underneath Booher’s draft. The gap for the third-place spot ebbed and flowed as Orzynski and Booher managed their tires in the track’s technical section and leveraged the draft on the long straights. As the duo emerged from the final corner, Booher, as he had on the race start, fanned out from behind Orzynski. Now side-by-side, the pair crossed the line separated by just 0.111 seconds with Orzynski capturing the final podium spot. The technical sections weren’t the only place where moves could be made as Trevor LaTourrette proved with a pass in Turn 6, the track’s fastest corner. That pass would allow LaTourrette to earn his first top five finish in the Skip Barber Race Series, a result that was quickly beat by a fourth-place finish in Race 2 for the Coloradoan. In Race 2, it was Jaysen Cajero’s turn to claim his first-career Skip Barber Race Series top five finish with a stellar drive. Cajero and LaTourrette spent the race’s wanning laps engaged in a battle for position that demonstrated not only the competitive nature of the Skip Barber Race Series, but also the emphasis placed on race craft and clean competition. From the opening practice to the closing race, rookie Logan Anderson dropped nearly two-and-a-half seconds off his fastest lap and earned a pair of top ten finishes. That result helped move him to seventh in the standings. Brazil’s Naim Saleh also added a pair of top ten finishes to his 2025 Skip Barber Race Series campaign. The Skip Barber Race Series will visit VIRginia International Raceway on May 13 – 14 for the next round of the 2025 season.
