Skip Barber Racing School alumni Austin Cindric, Alex Bowman, Joey Logano, and Tyler Reddick all advanced to the next round of the NASCAR Cup Series playoffs. With their success, 33% of the drivers remaining in the championship hunt are Skip Barber Racing School graduates. The star of the class on Sunday was Skip Barber alumni Bubba Wallace, however. Wallace guided his Toyota Camry XSE to a third-place result. He was the highest-finishing Toyota, and it was Wallace’s best finish of the season. Fellow Skip Barber graduates Bowman (9th), Ross Chastain (10th), Michael McDowell (11th), Noah Gragson (12th), Cindric (13th), and Chris Buescher (14th), also left Bristol with finishes in the top half. In the NASCAR Xfinity Series, four Skip Barber Racing School graduates have advanced to the playoffs with Austin Hill, Chandler Smith, AJ Allmendinger, and Sammy Smith in the running for the title. Chandler Smith (3rd), Brandon Jones (6th), and Allmendinger (10th) had top ten finishes in Friday’s race. Elsewhere, Skip Barber graduates Christian Eckes (4th), and Matt Crafton (6th), were in the top ten in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series race. Skip Barber Racing School graduate Sergio Perez was tenth in the Singapore Grand Prix. The IMSA WeatherTech Sportscar Championship made its return to the Indianapolis Motor Speedway for a six-hour race made even more challenging by Mother Nature’s torrential rain. Skip Barber Racing School graduate Connor De Phillippi helped BMW Team RLL to break its torrid stretch of seven podium-less races with a second-place finish at the Brickyard. De Phillippi also helped to ensure a 1-2 finish for Skip Barber alumni Bobby Rahal’s BMW Team RLL outfit. Skip Barber Racing School graduate Jordan Taylor was fifth in the Wayne Taylor Racing with Andretti Acura. His brother, and fellow SBRS alumni, Ricky Taylor was sixth in GTP. In GT Daytona, Skip Barber graduate Robby Foley was second in the Turner Motorsports BMW, Mike Skeen and Kenton Koch were third in their Korthoff/Preston Motorsports Mercedes, and Misha Goikhberg was fourth in the Forte Racing Lamborghini. Late last week, the 2024 Skip Barber Race Series concluded with Oliver Wheldon claiming the title over Dean Lambros at VIRginia International Raceway.
