Skip Barber Racing School graduate Joey Logano became the first driver to advance to the Round of 12 of the NASCAR Cup Series playoffs after winning the opening race of the postseason in Atlanta. Logano, in addition to Austin Hill in the NASCAR Xfinity Series, capped off a weekend sweep for Skip Barber Racing School alumni in NASCAR. Graduates Alex Bowman (5th), Tyler Reddick (6th), Kyle Busch (7th), and Austin Cindric (10th) also finished in the top ten. It was a strong day for Cindric who opened his playoff campaign by finishing second in Stage One and winning Stage Two before capping off the day with a tenth place run. He is now 27 points above the playoff cutline. In the NASCAR Xfinity Series, graduates Hill (1st), AJ Allmendinger (3rd), Chandler Smith (4th), Sammy Smith (7th), Josh Williams (8th), and Brandon Jones (9th) helped to secure 60% of the top ten for Skip Barber Racing School alumni. Allmendinger won Stage Two with Sammy Smith just behind him. Across the border from Georgia, SRO America was in Alabama at Barber Motorsports Park where Skip Barber Racing School alumni claimed podium finishes in four different series, headlined by Skip Barber Racing’s Celso Neto winning in TC America powered by the Skip Barber Racing School. Neto claimed the victory in Race 2 and added a podium finish in Saturday's race. He has not finished off the podium since May and has won four of the last six races. His Skip Barber Racing teammate Cooper Broll was third in Race 1 and ended his weekend with a top five result in Race 2. In TCA, Alex Garcia amassed a pair of podium finishes for Skip Barber Racing. In Toyota GR Cup North America, Skip Barber Racing School alumni Westin Workman was second in Race 1 and third in Race 2, giving the Toyota Driver Development racer another pair of podium finishes. Former Skip Barber Race Series championship contender Jaxon Bell was fifth in Race 2 while Skip Barber graduates Ford Koch and Mia Lovell each added a top ten finish to their record. Skip Barber Racing School alumni Conor Daly drove to an impressive second-place overall finish for Random Vandals Racing in the team’s third race, and Daly’s first of the GT World Challenge America season. Alumni Bryan Sellers took home the honors in the Pro-Am class while graduate Robby Foley was third in Pro-Am. Foley added another podium with a second place run in Race 2. In GT4 America, the alumni duo of David Peterman and Lee Carpentier partnered to pilot their Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 to a podium finish in Race 2. Lastly, Hannah Greenemeier was an impressive third overall and second in class in Sunday’s race. Looking ahead to this weekend, Formula 1 and Skip Barber Racing School graduate Sergio Perez returns to action from Azerbaijan and the streets of Baku. The NTT IndyCar Series will crown its 2024 champion from Nashville. The NASCAR Cup Series playoffs will trade Atlanta’s high banks for the twists of Watkins Glen in a pivotal road course race for the Round of 16 competitors. Next week, the Skip Barber Race Series will decide its 2024 champion with a thrilling battle between Andretti Autosport’s Oliver Wheldon and Dean Lambros coming down to the final round of the season with just three points separating them.
